Accra, April 13, GNA - The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of candidates who took the maiden edition of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for private candidates.

A statement signed by Mrs Agnes Teye-Cudjoe, Deputy Director, Public Affairs of WAEC Ghana and copied to Ghana News Agency on Monday said the results has been hosted online, and candidates could access it at the Council's website.

It said a total of 1,181 candidates made up of 717 males and 464 females entered for the examination including one hearing impaired candidate.

It noted that out of the total number which registered for the examination, 715 were first-timers and 466 were re-sitters.

The statement said the examination was written at 11 centres throughout the country.

It said the Council has withheld the entire results of three candidates alleged to have been involved in examination malpractices.

It said the Council has also withheld and is investigating the cases of 79 candidates who were reported to have written the examination without meeting the entry requirement for re-sitters and first-timers.

  'The withheld results will be released as soon as the Council concludes its investigations,' the statement said.
