President John Mahama has promised to return all confiscated properties of the Convention People's Party depending on the outcome of Attorney General's investigations into a petition on the issue.

The properties include office buildings and houses seized by the state after the overthrow of Ghana's first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in 1966.

At a meeting with the president at the Flagstaff House, chairman of the CPP Council of Elders, Felix Amoah drew the Presidents attention to promises made to return confiscated assets to the party.

President Mahama in his recent State of the Nation Address said a directive has been given to the Attorney General to work on returning the confiscated assets.

The CPP council of elders decided to follow up on the directive it described as a “bold and courageous gesture of restoration”.

President Mahama pledged his determination to bring closure to the subject once the Attorney General conclude investigations into the issue.

“I know the Attorney General has been working on it, I know that the Akpalu Commission carried out the confiscation and so she has gotten a copy of the commission of enquiry's report, identifying the properties and then comparing them to the list that you gave us so that we can properly identify the properties that we are discussing, then she will send her recommendation,” he noted.

The president stated that although the National Reconciliation Commission tried to deal with some of the issues raised, he assured the CPP council of elders that “I am hoping that we should be able to put this matter to rest in the shortest possible time”.
