Information reaching DAILY GUIDE indicates that Joseph Appiah Boateng, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Afram Plains South, assaulted a police officer of the Nkwakaw divisional Police command at Obomeng-Kwahu during the Easter season.

The main road from Mpreaso to Obo and Nkawkaw, according to reports, was blocked due to the Easter festivities.

The Police mounted a barrier to divert vehicular traffic to connect Nkawkaw and Obo.

Reports said Joseph Appiah managed to overtake the other vehicles, near the police barrier on his way to his official residence at Obo on Sunday at 2 pm at Kwahu.

However, a police officer, whose name was not given, attempted to stop the MP, but he failed since he drove at top speed through the town.

Sources indicate that the police officer chased after the MP and hit the rear of his vehicle to force him to stop.

The angry MP alighted from his car in the middle of the road and held the neck of the police officer.

The legislator slapped the police officer in public, which resulted in fisticuffs.

It took other police officers over 15 minutes to separate them.

Joseph Appiah Boateng, immediately after the fight, travelled to the Mpreaso Police station to lodge a complaint against the police officer for assaulting him.

But the Police officer also stormed the same station to write his statement.

They were given medical forms to attend hospital for treatment.

The Nkawkaw Police Divisional Commander, ASP James Sarfo-Preprah, when contacted, confirmed the incident, adding that they both sustained injuries.

He said his outfit had launched an investigation in the matter.

According to him, the police would write a report on the matter and forward it to the Regional Police Command for appropriate action to be taken.
