President Mahama receives credentials of five envoys

Accra,    April 1, GNA - President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday said Ghana would soon revamp most of the factories that were grounded as a result of power inadequacy.

He mentioned the Aboso Glass Factory, Kumasi Jute Factory and the introduction of the tramp light rail system, as some of the projects he was hoping to collaborate with the Czech Republic to revamp and establish.

President Mahama stated this when he received the credentials of Ms Margita Fuschsova as the new Czech Ambassador to Ghana.

Four other Ambassadors who presented their credentials included, Mr Delileche Youssef, Algerian Ambassador to Ghana, and Ms Lulama Mary-Theresa Xingwana, South African High Commissioner to Ghana.

The rest who are non-resident are; Mr Chailert Limsonboon, Thai Ambassador to Nigeria, and Ghana and Mr Mohammed Abdellahi Ould El Boukhary, Mauritanian Ambassador to Ivory Coast and Ghana.

President Mahama said Ghana and the Czech Republic had over the years collaborated in the establishment of the GIHOC shoe factory in Kumasi, Aboso Glass Factory, and the Jute Factory also in Kumasi.

He explained that the Aboso Glass Factory had to be closed down due to the reduction of power in the system, and gave the assurance that with the operations of the Ghana Gas Project, it would be easier to reconnect and revamp the factory and provide power for the operations of the light rail system.

On Algeria, President Mahama promised to strengthen the diplomatic and economic relations to improve on trade and commerce between the two countries in the coming years.

He commended the government of Algeria for supporting Ghana to evacuate Ghanaians during the Libyan crisis, and gave the assurance that such pleasantries would continue between them.

Receiving Mrs Singwana, new South African High Commissioner to Ghana, President Mahama said South African companies, including MTN Ghana, Stanbic Ghana, and Anglogold Ashanti, were doing well in Ghana.

He said Ghana has also signed Memoranda of Understanding with South Africa in the areas of Transport, Electricity and Standards.

On Thailand, President Mahama said Ghana would relate with Thailand in the areas of Agriculture and Food Security, while prospects for a joint Commission on co-operation were underway.

President Mahama said Ghana and Mauritania would forge ahead towards the deepening of relations by collaborating to acquire skills in oil and gas exploration in the two countries.

Mr Delileche, Algerian Ambassador, described Ghana as a successful country with peace and tranquility, while Mrs Xingwana said she would work hard to ensure that their Joint Permanent Co-operation, worked for the mutual benefits of the two countries.

Ms Fuchsova, Czech Republic Ambassador to Ghana, promised to uphold some of the good practices that had ensured fruitful relations between the two countries over the years.

Mr Limsonboon Thai Ambassador to Ghana, gave the assurance that they would co-operate with Ghana in the areas of rice production, while Mr Boukhary Mauritanian Ambassador to Ghana, promised to work diligently to project the aspirations of the two countries.
