Savana Signatures presents computers to Ho United MA JHS

Ho, April 1, GNA - Savana Signatures, an ICT for schools advocacy NGO, has presented 10 desktop computers and accessories to the Ho United MA, Junior High School, at a ceremony in Ho.

Prince Kotoko, Volta Regional Programme Co-ordinator of Savana Signatures, said the presentation was in line with the NGO's policy of enhancing ICT pedagogy among basic school teachers and ICT skills among pupils.

'It is expected that this shift from the conventional way of teaching to a technological approach, using ICT tools, will translate into better performance of students, not just in their final year examinations, but wherever they find themselves,' he stated.

Mr Kotoko said the NGO operates four programmes, education and gender inclusion, youth empowerment and health, sexual and reproductive health and rights.

He said Integration of ICT in Education, was a sub-set of the Education project under which 'free computers are provided to selected schools, in close collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES).

Mr Kotoko said 17 schools had so far benefited from the donation since the formation of the NGO, five years ago, and that 10 more schools were likely to come on board.

He said the United MA JHS package included, a projector, laptop, printers and a camera.

Madam Gloria Adjeyi, Headmistress, commended the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the school for the spectacular speed with which it organized to get the laboratory ready for the computers.

Francis Kporvi, Circuit Supervisor observed that many schools were facing challenges of maintenance of the computers after acquisition.

Francis Animidza, ICT Teacher at the school, said before the donation, he used his personal laptop to demonstrate during lessons, which were largely theoretical.
