Offinso (Ash), March 31, GNA - Police officers have been asked to make deliberate efforts to build public trust and confidence through the   strengthening of their relationship with the civilian population.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Edward Oduro-Kwarteng, the Offinso Divisional Commander, said they should see the people as an important ally in the crime fight.

This demands that they become more courteous and decent in the performance of their duties.

He was speaking at the annual social event popularly referred to as WASSA,   held for police personnel of the Command at Offinso.

ACP Oduro-Kwarteng announced that there had been a significant reduction in the area's crime rate,   but said that should not make anybody complacent.

They need to sustain the momentum to make things uncomfortable for law breakers and deviants.

Criminal cases were down to 1,095, last year, from the 2013's total of 1, 206 cases, representing a 10 per cent decrease.

Mr. Oduro-Kwarteng reminded them that police efficiency was measured by the absence of crime, and not the number of people prosecuted in the courts.

It was for this reason that they should up their game to prevent crime commission.

He again asked that they maintained a high standard of professionalism,   to build the image of the service, such that all would be proud of it.

'In all our duties, let us be mindful of our ways, actions, tongue, character and habits.'

ACP Oduro-Kwarteng praised the Offinso Traditional Council for taking the initiative to construct a state-of-the-art divisional headquarters for the Police in area.

The event, which provided the opportunity for relaxation, and to plan strategies to enhance operational efficiency, was also used to reward hardworking officers with prizes.
