The inability of a 30-year-old man to shelve his unbridled libido towards his 13-year-old niece has landed him in trouble as he is currently battling with the law for freedom.

Baba Iddrisu, a motorbike mechanic at Kakpayili, a suburb of Tamale, allegedly defiled and impregnated his 13-year-old niece (name withheld)   under rather disturbing circumstances, leading to his arrest by officials of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU).

The suspect, who has insatiable interest in luring teenage girls into his room and engaging in sexual intercourse with them, saw nothing wrong with sleeping with his niece, it was gathered.

The suspect, who is the victim's late father's youngest brother, from preliminary investigations, is in charge of the upkeep of the poor girl and her grandmother. The victim was reportedly sent to take money from the uncle to enable her bed-ridden grandmother seek medical attention at a nearby health facility.

But the suspect allegedly demanded to sleep with the little girl before he would give her the money, a request she flatly refused.

Determined to commit the act, the suspect overpowered the girl and forcibly had carnal knowledge of her in his room and warned her never to reveal what had happened to anyone.

The victim later reported the matter to the grandmother, who also warned her against divulging what had happened to anybody as this had the potential of ruining the family ties.

Suspect Baba, based on the grandmother's warning to the victim, was empowered and kept defiling the girl each time she was asked to go for money from him for the grandmother's medication.

The grandmother however died a few weeks ago, leaving the poor girl in distress as there was no one to cater for her.

A Good Samaritan, who decided to take care of the girl, later found out that the girl was four months pregnant after medical checks.

She disclosed to her new caretaker the trauma she had gone through at the hands of her uncle.

An official complaint was subsequently lodged with the police and Baba Iddrisu was arrested by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service.

Upon his arrest, family members and some opinion leaders threatened the Good Samaritan and asked her to withdraw the case or incur their wrath but she has disclosed that nothing will force her to withdraw the case.

The suspect has since been remanded by a Tamale District Magistrate Court pending the outcome of the docket which has been forwarded to the Attorney General's office for advice.
