Accra, March 31, GNA - Tchakote Bertrand, trader, was on Tuesday arraigned at an Accra Circuit Court for defrauding one Sylvester Yeboah of an amount of GHȼ8,000.00.

Tchakote pleaded not guilty to the charge,   and was remanded by the court presided over by Madam Helen Amoah.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Jubiok Michaels, told the court that the complainant Sylvester, is a professional teacher resident at Fadaman, while the accused person is a Cameroonian national staying at Kasoa.

He said about three months ago,   the accused person approached a witness in the case, Raphael Amenyo, that he was badly in need of a room to rent. Later the two became friends and exchanged telephone numbers.

He said on March 5, the accused person declared to the witness that he was capable of doubling money if he wanted to be rich within three days, but the witness who was not in the capacity to raise any amount, introduced the complainant to the accused person.

The prosecution said the next day, Tchakote lured the complainant and the witness into their room, and succeeded in collecting an amount of GHȼ8,000.00 and promised the complainant that the said amount would be doubled in three days.

He told the court that the accused person thereafter performed some rituals, and left a parcel with the warning that it should be opened after three days.

Police Inspector Michaels said, three days elapsed and when the parcel was opened only carbon papers were found in it.

A report was made at the Tesano Police Station, and the accused person was arrested.

The prosecution said, in his caution statement, Tchakote admitted the offence, but said the amount involved was GHȼ5,000.00 and not GHȼ8,000.00. GNA
