Ing Boampong assumes office as GhIE's 46th President

Tamale, March 31, GNA - Engineer (Ing) Kwaku Boampong, the Deputy Chief Executive of ABP Consult Limited, has been inducted into office as the 46th President of the Ghana Institution of Engineers (GhIE) to serve a one-term.

The investiture ceremony, which was held in Tamale at the weekend, saw Justice Noble Nkrumah, a Tamale High Court Judge, administering the Oath of Office to Ing Boampong to formally assume office.

Other 32 Council Members of the GhIE were also sworn into office at the ceremony, which climaxed the week-long GhIE Engineering Week Celebration and the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) Business and Investment Forum, held in Tamale from last week Tuesday.

The week-long forum was to facilitate and promote multi-stakeholder investment policy dialogue and business match-making opportunities.

In his inaugural address, Ing Boampong, who is 63 years old, said the GhIE Council had set out to develop an Infrastructure Report Card, based on a model developed by the American Society of Civil Engineers, for some of the country's infrastructure.

He said the Infrastructure Report Card would grade the state of some of the country's existing infrastructure on a scale of A to F for gradations of excellence to poor and failing.

This formed part of efforts to ensure that the infrastructure engineering designs met the enormous sustainable challenges of being more resilient, using less energy and producing less waste, conserving water and other natural resources and helping to feed and meeting the needs of the people.

Ing Boampong said the GhIE Council had started mobilising resources to produce the first Infrastructure Report Card in the year ahead and urged all members of GhIE to support the initiative.

Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, Minister of Roads and Highways, whose speech was read on his behalf, encouraged the new President of GhIE to initiate discussions into new evolving issues such as Climate Change resilience, construction and material technologies and cost effective methods of construction.
