Fiber Optics Inventor Inducted Into The National Academy Of Inventors As Fellow (NAI)

Dr. Thomas O. Mensah, a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics was Inducted as Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors USA at California Institute of Technology, March 20, 2015.

Dr. Thomas Mensah one of the four original Inventors of Fiber Optics in the US with 7 Patents in six years was selected for his innovations in Fiber Optics as well as his work in Nanotechnology performed at the University of Florida, High Performance Materials institute in the College of Engineering.

He has demonstrated a highly prolific spirit of innovation in creating or facilitating outstanding inventions that have made a tangible impact on quality of life, economic development, and the welfare of society". As stated by The Selection Committee.

Dr. Thomas Mensah received patents that provided the enabling technologies that permitted the world wide replacement of copper wire cables with fiber optic cables including the Ultra Strong Optical Fibers used in Submarine cables that connect continents and countries which extended the Global reach of the Modern Day Internet Platform.

These developments allow Facebook photos, Instagram pictures, Online Search information from Google, Yahoo, Bing etc, Emails, YouTube videos and Data stored in the cloud to be transmitted at the speed of light to tablets , cell phones and computers on the Internet Platform worldwide.

Dr. Mensah is one of the three Blacks in the world among the 167 inductees, which included 6 Nobel Prize Laureates, Presidents of Universities and leading Research Institutions, Members of the other National Academies, etc. This Elite group was honoured by Mr. Andrew Faile the Deputy Commissioner of Patent Operations at the US Patents Office, Dr. Paul R. Sanberg, President of NAI, during the Annual Meeting of the National
Academy of Inventors at California Institute of Technology.

Their names were also placed in the US Congressional Records and publicized in the Chronicle of Higher Education in the United States.

The Ambassador of Ghana to the United States, Lt. General Joseph Smith, sent this note to Dr. Mensah,” on behalf of the President of Ghana, HE John Mahama and the entire Nation, we are proud of you and congratulate you for these achievements”.
