Lead counsel for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the landmark 2012 presidential election petition at the Supreme Court, Philip Addison, says he is ready to battle the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the Osu Korley Klottey Constituency parliamentary seat, come election 2016.

The seasoned lawyer openly declared his intention to join the contest in Accra on Thursday when he visited Odawna, in the Greater Accra metropolis to interact with residents at the grassroots level to find out how they were faring in the face of the current economic crisis confronting the nation.

The visit was also intended to inspect a sanitation project the lawyer carried out there a few days ago after the entire community had been flooded following a heavy downpour.

Addressing the media and a large crowd of residents, the renowned legal gem noted, 'There have been rumours that I, Philip Addison, want to lead the constituency. Today, I am here to say it's true. I want to represent you people in this constituency in parliament.'

He urged supporters of the party, 'This seat is an NPP seat and if we provide the right candidate, we will win it. We need to vote for the right candidate.'

The Korley Klottey parliamentary seat is currently being occupied by the NDC.

So far, Mr. Addison is the only NPP member that has openly declared his intention to fight for the seat. But there are speculations that the party's Korley Klottey constituency chairman, Nii Noi Nortey, is equally interested in contesting for the seat.

No Petition In 2016
Lawyer Addison, who received a rousing welcome at Odawna, was optimistic that the NPP would clinch victory in 2016.

According to him, 'There will be no petition. This time around the NPP needs to win the elections.'

He pledged his full support for the party's flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as the 2016 elections zero in.

'When Nana Akufo-Addo wins the presidency he will need to have a majority in parliament to assist him in ruling the country, and that is why I have decided to step forward,' Mr Addison underscored.

Commenting on his contributions towards the party, he disclosed that he had been engaged in several activities at the national and grassroots levels towards its progress.

Dumsor
Many residents of Odawna came out of their homes with eagerness to shake hands with the lawyer, whom they referred to as 'Lawyer Pink Sheet,' - recounting the Supreme Court trial where the NPP's evidence was based on the Electoral Commission's document known simply as 'Pink Sheet.'

They complained bitterly to the lawyer how the current erratic power supply, popularly known as dumsor, had thrown most of them out of business, creating huge financial burdens on them.

They assured him of their support, saying they needed a change of leadership because the NDC government's mismanagement of the economy was severely affecting their lives.
