UNAIDS, Ghana AIDS commission to embark on public walk

Accra, March 27, GNA - The Ghana AIDS Commission and the United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) would on Saturday March 28, embark on a public walk and community forum on women empowerment and HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention.

The walk which is partnered by Strategic Communications Africa Ltd (Stratcomm Africa) and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), would begin at 06:30 hrs from the Osu Police Station in Accra, proceed through the John Evans Atta-Mills High Street and end at Mantse Agbonaa in James Town.

A statement issued by Stratcomm Africa Ltd said the walk is part of the month-long celebration of international women's day in Ghana by UNAIDS and its partners.

The statement said it was aimed at drawing public attention to the need to continue efforts to empower women and would include women's associations, Human Rights advocates, Men's groups, the media and the general public.

'Women are key partners in development and empowering them to make positive choices, including choices that protect them from HIV/AIDS infection, is critical,' the statement quoted Mr. Girmay Haile, Director of UNAIDS Ghana as saying.

The gathering at Mantse Agbonaa is expected to be treated to innovative edutainment skits, drama, music and dance that communicate the message of women empowerment for community advancement and national development.

Stratcomm Africa said the music and drama would be provided by its affiliate NGO, Centre for Development and Intercultural Communication (CEDIC) and one of its youth drama groups, CEDIC Perfect Stars

We invite women from all walks of life and all of Ghana to join in this walk for advancing women empowerment', Ms Esther Cobbah, Chief Executive Officer of Stratcomm Africa said.
