Tension mounts in Ho NDC over ministerial appointments
22.03.2015 LISTEN

Ho, March 22, GNA - There is heightening displeasure in the Ho Central Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over Governments failure to appoint a Minister of State from the Constituency since 1992.

A massive demonstration is reportedly being planned by youth groups, Party sympathizers and some chiefs to protest the 'sidelining' of the Constituency.

Mr Wisdom Edem Nkornoo, the Ho Central Constituency Organizer of the Party told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that efforts to contain agitations of the youth groups and branch executives were unsuccessful.

He said it was unfortunate that nobody from the Constituency was in the 'register' of Ministers of State since the commencement of constitutional rule in 1992, though the Constituency remained a stronghold of the NDC.

'We have remained very loyal to NDC. We gave the Party our all so it is very unfortunate and sad that when we cross checked the issue raised by our members, we could not find a single Minister of State from Ho Central,' Mr Nkornoo said.

Mr Ransford Delali Kasu, the Klefe Achatime Branch Secretary of the Party said apathy towards Party work was becoming a major worry for Party executives and said it was time President John Dramani Mahama rewarded the Constituency to 'encourage' members and sympathisers of the Party.

'The situation is baffling and disappointing. We delivered over 62,000 votes, the second highest in the country in 2012, yet no reward. Not even a deputy minister. We are ready for 2016 but the reward for delivering in past years must come,' he said.

Mr Ferg Afedo, the Ho Central Constituency Chairman of the Party said the situation was 'frustrating' but expressed hope that the President would 'definitely' reward the Constituency.

He said the Constituency was endowed with 'quality' human resource and urged President Mahama to 'turn towards the Constituency.'
