GHACEM Opens Depot At Techiman

GHACEM Limited has inaugurated a new depot at Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region with a storage capacity of about 60,000 bags of cement (3,000 tonnes).

This brings to five the total number of depots established by GHACEM, as it already has some in Kumasi, Tamale, Wa and Buipe.

About 60,000 bags would be dispatched to the depot on a weekly basis for sale to Techiman and neighbouring regions only through distributors of GHACEM. In addition to the depots, GHACEM has set up 14 more sales offices across Ghana.

Nana Philip Archer, Commercial Director of GHACEM, who opened the depot, noted that the commercial nature of Techiman and its strategic position as a direct linkage between key commercial regions such as Ashanti, Northern, Upper East and Upper West informed the decision to site a depot in Techiman at a time when demand of cement was growing.

He described the development as a major move to meet the huge demand for GHACEM cement in the Brong Ahafo region and its environs owing to the rise in the number of monumental construction projects, such as Bui Dam.

Nana Archer entreated the chiefs and stakeholders in the community to give GHACEM the necessary support to operate, noting that GHACEM uses local raw materials, including 25% limestone in the production of the Super Rapid cement which when patronised will have positive impact on Ghana's economy including employment generation.

He urged the chiefs and opinion leaders of Techiman, including schools and hospitals in the country to reach out and take advantage of the GHACEM Cement Foundation, which donates about 35,000 bags across the country annually since 2004.

Philip Oppong Amponsah, MCE of Techiman, applauded the Board and Management of GHACEM for bringing their cherished cement business closer to Techiman, describing it as timely.

Techiman, he noted, is a strategic commercial city with one of the biggest market centres in the country.

Noting that he would turn Techiman into a business hub, he urged GHACEM to employ the local people who are capable of filling the vacant positions within the area.

Present at the ceremony were the Dabehene of Techiman Traditional Area, Nana Owusu Antwi Boasiako II, who represented Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV, Paramount Chief of Techiman, as well as GHACEM distributors and customers across the country.
