Ghana Consulate Staff In Dubai Say Good-Bye

The entire Foreign Service Staff of the Ghana Consulate in Dubai plus the Consul-General have ended their duty tour. The Consulate was opened in 2011 following Ghana Community in Dubai and the Ghana-Dubai Traders petitioning the Ghana Government earlier in November 2005.

In a very solemn ceremony which also coincided with the 58thGhana Independence Day Anniversary Celebration, troupes of GHASCAD, The Ghana Social Community in Abu Dhabi led by their President: Madam MahaMekkaoui bused themselves in their numbers to join their Dubai Ghanaian counterparts. Several other nationalities joined their Ghanaian friends to the Anniversary which took place at the Umm Suqeim Residence of the Consul-General.

At the Ceremony, the outgoing Consul-General AlhajiAbdulaiYakubu conveyed the President's Independence Day message to the Community. He then followed later with His Farewell Speech and extolled the virtues of the Ghana Consulate as it is now, from its inception to date.

He paid glowing tribute to the Staff who made it possible for the Consulate to take off as well as the tremendous support from the Ghana Community.

AlhajiYakubu stated the significant strides the Mission made over the past year alone, accompanying two delegations to Ghana, first a UAE Government delegation led by His Excellency Ghanem Al Ghaith the UAE Assistant Minister for Economy, the Delegation which included Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, TAQA (The word TAQA means energy in Arabic); Dubai Ports World among others.

The Consul-General said that some of the companies had operations in Ghana whilst others were exploring opportunities. The Abu Dhabi Fund promised the Ghana Government a grant of US$100million during a meeting with President John DramaniMahama at Akosombo. As a result, Ghana's Minister of Roads has since paid a visit to Abu Dhabi to take the discussions further, AlhajiYakubu said.

Another trip, he said, was a Dubai Chamber of Commerce delegation with the aim to open the second Chamber in Africa and the fourth worldwide, in Ghana with the purpose of facilitating investment between Ghana and the UAE.

Concluding, His Excellency AlhajiYakubuimplored Ghanaians to continue being the law-abiding expatriates that they are known for, and to give the new Staff of the Consulate the same wonderful cooperation he and the outgoing Team enjoyed.

The Ghana Social Community of Abu Dhabi presented plaques for exemplary service to Mrs Theresa AdzoQuartey, Mrs Rebeca Anti, Mr Tony Kuteng, Mr Hussain Amandiand the Consul-General AlhajiYakubu, wishing them God's blessing in their next assignments. The Anniversary Chairman was Prof. Joojo Brown of Al Ain University.

The gathering was treated to sumptuous Ghanaian dishes prepared by Auntie Mercy and Gateway to Africa Trading.
