Is It A Birthday Worth Celebrating?

Is It A Birthday Worth Celebrating?
06.03.2015 LISTEN

We were not there but have heard, we did not see, but have read and learnt the narrow and rough path our forefathers walked through to achieving independence.

The independence of Ghana is the greatest gift ever given to us. Committed souls and great nationalists had exchanged their lives for the independence of Ghana, just to make the generation of peace, unity and tranquility. It is therefore paramount to always remember and adore our forefathers for the sacrifice, vision and commitment in building this unique nation called Ghana.

It is a fact that, we have gone far in our bid to continueing from where our grandfathers stopped. Having attained fighty eight (58) years as a nation, what have we added to the very strong foundation handed over to us? Yes we have chalked a number of successes in our social, political, economic and cultural lives but that is never enough as these transformations are virtually insignificant when one critically matches one on one what we had before and after independence. Without any argument and comparisons, we must agree on one thing " WE HAVE NOT ACHIEVED MUCH"

Fellow country men and women, it is not however late because he who laugh last, laugh best. A positive line of thinking coupled with practical actions are the only vehicles that can take us far. It appears we lack directions and do not take inspirations from the enormous legacies passed on to us by our forefathers. I see the bones of our grandfathers rised against us because, we have thrown to the dogs, that enjoyous flesh of the economy we inherited.

Anyway, may our grandfathers forgive us for cooking to ourselves, this sour and bitter meal. The most challenging situation we have caused ourselves are: corruption, political witch-hunting, laziness, tribalism, victimization and many other dirty and self centred acts that millitate against the smooth growth of our nation Ghana. We engage in too much empty talks and sit aloof over many contemporary impediments in our socio-economic environment. Power play and cheap political propaganda is the order of the day. For these, we should be ashamed of.

May this day provides another opportunity for us to unite despite our cultural, political, ethnic, religious and social differences.

It is enough a lesson to learn from our numerous setbacks.

Great leaders are determined by great actions. Atleast we can do better.

LONG LIVE GHANA.
