Anfoega (V/R), March 05, GNA - Mr Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, a Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, on Wednesday gave the assurance that the District Level Elections (DLE) would certainly come on.

He, therefore, urged the citizenry to turn up massively and vote for their preferred candidates when the new date is announced.

Mr Agyekum said this when he broke the ground for work to commence on the North Dayi District Assembly Complex at Anfoega.

The Supreme Court directed the Electoral Commission to call off the election scheduled for March 03, this year, after an aspirant, Benjamin Eyi Mensah, a fisherman, contested the Commission's decision to disqualify him.

The Court, in a unanimous decision on Friday, February 27, declared the process leading up to the elections unconstitutional and directed the Commission to restart the process.

Mr Agyekum said the postponement of the election could be a 'blessing' for prospective assembly members to re-organise for victory and advised them to take advantage of it.

He said the assembly and unit committee members were the 'life-wire' of the decentralisation process and asked them to co-operate with staff of the Ministry to develop the districts.

The Deputy Minister, who was in the district to create awareness on the impending National Sanitation Day, urged people in the district to participate massively in the exercise and clean their environment.

Mr Stephen Timinka, District Chief Executive of North Dayi, enumerated projects being undertaken by the Assembly and called for support from traditional authorities and stakeholders.

The over GH¢ 1.4 million project is expected to be completed in nine months.
