Tema, March 5, GNA - Tex Styles Ghana Limited (TSG), manufacturer of the GTP and Woodin range of African prints on Thursday commissioned an eight million Ghana cedis Waste Water Treatment Plant at its Tema factory.

The first phase of the project would treat waste water using biological, Ultra Filtration and Reverse Osmosis processes, making it safe for re-use.

It would also allow TSG to recycle 40 per cent of all waste water generated by the factory, reducing the demand on the already-strained resources of the Ghana Water Company.

Dr Daniel Van Wassenhove, the Technical Director, TSG said the project was to demonstrate the company's commitment to corporate social responsibility and that the plant would cut down the amount of waste discharged into the drains, lessening pollution in the country.

He said more fresh water would be available to the community as the factory would be requiring less water from Ghana Water Company and relying increasingly on its own recycled water.

Mr. Hans Ouwendijk, the Chief Executive Officer of Vlisco Group, said the plant would not only be socially beneficial by making more water available to the community but would also help to meet the standards spelt out by the Environmental Protection Agency.

He said this would, therefore, have a positive impact on the environment, where they operate.

He said as one of the largest tax payers in Ghana, the company contributed immensely to employment, health delivery, social support and environmental education across the nation.

He said the company has also set up a retail coordinating centre for the whole of Africa in Ghana for its operations.

Mr John Pwamang, the Deputy Executive Director, Field Operation, Environmental Protection Agency, urged other textile manufacturing companies to comply with the environmental best practices.

He commended the company for adopting best environmental practices in their operations.
