Accra, Mar 05, GNA - The Ministry of Trade and Industry has suspended indefinitely the Ghana Conformity Assessment Programme (G-CAP) to allow for more work and further consultations.
A statement signed by Mr Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry said the suspension would also enable the Ministry and stakeholders look at alternative ways of improving conformity assessment, taking into consideration concerns raised by all stakeholders.
'The Ministry of Trade and Industry is mindful of the fact that misunderstanding among stakeholders of the implementation of the G-CAP could lead to disruptions in the business environment and the dislocation of various business and industry value chains, which has the potential of worsening Ghana's economic prospects,' the statement added.
The Ministry urged stakeholders to dispassionately hold discussions on the way forward to address the interest of stakeholders, facilitate trade as well as ensure that goods imported into the country meet the required quality standards.
