Mahama Must Sack KMA Boss Too - Kwaku Baako

Editor-in-chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Kweku Baako has asked President John Mahama to sack the Mayor of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Kojo Bonsu.

He said the mayor has also contributed to the many misunderstandings that have rocked the region in recent times.

He made the statement on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo' when he was asked about his thoughts on the removal of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Samuel Sarpong and his deputy Joseph Yamin from office.

Mr Baako said if he was the President he would have sacked the KMA boss together with the minister and his deputy and that he does not know why he is still at post.

He indicated that the recent development in the Ashanti region was a threat to regional security and the disturbances it created for the region was worrying.

He noted that although he felt sorry for the regional minister, the factions created in the party as a result of disagreements must be handled before it destabilizes the region.

The Regional Minister comes out as gentle and I feel sorry that he has been caught in that trap and has become a victim of circumstances, Mr Baako added.

The Ashanti Regional office of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was the scene of chaos yesterday, as cracks in the governing party assumed a new dimension.

Two feuding groups - Coalition of NDC Footsoldiers and Activists in Kumasi, allegedly owing allegiance to the Regional Minister, Samuel Sarpong, and NDC Taskforce, whose members are believed to be supporting the Regional Chairman, Yaw Obimpeh - clashed in a frightening manner.

The two irate groups virtually turned the NDC office into a boxing arena as they openly heckled each other.

The coalition members, who claimed that they had been neglected by the party after helping it to win the 2012 polls, tried locking up the office but the NDC Taskforce prevented the action, resulting in the scuffle.

 Joy News has however discovered that the dismissal of the Ashanti regional minister and his deputy could be as a result of a long-standing frosty relationship between the two, which is threatening the unity of the NDC in the region.

 Mr. Samuel Sarpong and his deputy, Joseph Yamin were relieved of their positions in government today. A statement signed by communications minister, Edward Omane Boamah did not explain why the president took the decision.

National organizer of the NDC Kofi Adams says the party welcomes the president's decision.

He says the party had met the minister and his deputy in an attempt to resolve their differences but it did not yield any results.
