Winneba (C/R), Feb 27, GNA - Three lecturers of the University of Education Winneba have agreed and stated that if the aims and objectives of the country decentralization process will be fully achieved then women participation should be considered.

The three who were members of a panel of judges for a debate are, Mr. C.B. Bachie, Head of English Department, Mrs. Rebecca Williams, Lecturer and Dr. B. B. B. Bingab, Coordinator of Mathematics and English Externally Funded Project and a Lecturer, Business Education, University of Education Winneba (UEW).

They made the observation in their verdict at a debate organized by the National Commission on Civic Education on the District Level Election for Civic Education Club in UEW, South Campus in Winneba.

The programme which was sponsored by European Union was for members of the Club to raise their concern on whether women participation in the local level governance is important or not.

According to them women have equal skills and knowledge as their male counterparts to administer at all decision making levels since what men could do women also could do towards the development of the country.

They said people use to say 'Politics is Dirty' and one may ask who made it dirty, and if it is true that it is dirty then it is the men who are in majority, managing the affairs of the country who have made it dirty.

They therefore emphasized the need of society to encourage and give women the chance to be part of the local governance processes to come out with their expertise to help make it clean in order to achieve the needed growth the country needs.

Mr. Patrick Asare-Nelson, Project Manager of European Union Support programmes, appealed to the participants to be advocates of the forthcoming Local Level Elections in their communities and urge members to come out in their numbers and vote for committed people and not to forget the women who were caretakers of the homes.

Later the NCCE gave the debaters who were made up two females and two males electoral souvenirs, books regarding electoral laws and cash of 50 Gh cedis each as their awards.
