Sports provides a holistic approach in training - Vice Chancellor

Sunyani, Feb.27, GNA - Prof Mrs. Esi Awuah, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Energy and Natural Resources, has said the University would only roll-out programmes that would train and build the capacity of human resource to make them relevant.

She said the country always sought the expertise of foreigners in the development of some sectors of the country and that the University would introduce courses that would train its students to address that challenge.

Prof. Mrs. Awuah said this when a committee from the Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) led by its president, DR. Kwasi Agoh, inspected the sports facilities and management structures to approve or disapprove their membership to GUSA.

She said it was the quest of the University to raise great and transformational sports men and women for the country and announced sports was included in the Vice Chancellors courses that would be introduce soon.

Prof. Mrs. Awuah said other programmes that would be introduce included Architectural Engineering, Construction Technology and Cyber Crime.

She made a plea to the GUSA council to exempt boxing from their sporting activities and consider only the healthy sports, saying boxing had harmful side effects.

Dr. Kwasi Agoh, the President of GUSA, said inspection of physical and management structures of the University was a requirement to ensure prospective applicants met set standards to become a GUSA member.

Dr. Agoh mention some of the mandate of GUSA as organizing sporting activities for Universities in Ghana, raising teams to engage in international games, training students to be leaders in charge of sports   and training of coaches.
