Jirapa Assembly endorses President's nominee

Jirapa, (U/W), Feb. 27,   GNA - Assembly members of the Jirapa District Assembly have confirmed Mr. Cletus Seidu Dapila as the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the District.

Mr. Dapila, a government appointee to the Assembly, polled 43 votes out of the 51 ballots cast by the Assembly members, representing 84.3 per cent. Eight members voted against.

In a short statement after his endorsement, Mr. Dapila expressed gratitude to the President for the confidence reposed in him and the Assembly members for demonstrating the spirit of unity in his confirmation.

He pledged to work in unison with the assembly members, traditional rulers and all stakeholders of the District in order to bring the needed development to the people.

Alhaji Amidu Sulemani, the Upper West Regional Minister, added his voice in thanking the Assembly members on behalf of the President for the honour done them.

He said the District, and the Region, at large, was confronted with many development challenges and appealed to the DCE to work hard with the people in order to address those that were peculiar to his District.

Mr. Ano Justin, the Electoral Commission's representative, who conducted the confirmation process, reminded the Assembly members about the March 3 District Level Elections (DLEs) and the need for them to educate people from their electoral areas towards a massive turnout.

He pointed out that the Law required every eligible voter to be verified by a Biometric Verification Device (BVD) and urged the Assembly members also to help educate their people for them to understand the law for a successful election.
