New Abirem (E/R), Feb. 27, GNA - Obrempong Kwasi Amo Kyretwie, the chief of Abirem, has appealed to Mr Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere, the Eastern Regional Minister, to step in to resolve the Akyem Kotoku chieftaincy dispute.

He said the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area had lost so much for the past 16 years since the dispute 'which is merely a family issue.'

'Regional Minister, this issue is on my heart and if you help solve it, Akyem Kotoku will be very grateful to you,' he said.

Obrempong Kwasi Amo Kyretwie made the appeal at a durbar organized as part of the Minister's working visit to the Birim North District.

He appealed to the Regional Minister to invite Oseadeyo Dr Frimpong Manso, the Akyem Kotoku Paramount Chief, the Queenmother and the representatives of the Attafuah faction to resolve the dispute.

The Chief expressed worry about armed robbery in the Birim North District and blamed it on bad roads and the erratic power supply.

Praising the District Police Command for hard work, he appealed to Mr Antwi-Boasiako to get the government to construct and tar all bad roads in the area.

The Chief called for urgent construction of a children's ward at the Abirem Government Hospital to save the children who are currently on admission and sharing the same ward with adults.

The Regional Minister assured the chief of the government's commitment to provide infrastructural development to the district and announced that soon works would begin on the Nkawkaw/Abirem road.

He pledged to use his office to address the Akyem Kotoku chieftaincy dispute.

Mr Antwi-Boasiako urged chiefs and people of mining areas to obey the country's laws and not to take the law into their own hands.
