The IMANI Center for Policy & Education HAS two important meetings.

The first, is a meeting assessing the results of budget tracking and analysis undertaken by IMANI and pertaining to some specific sectors of the Ghanaian economy namely health, education, water and sanitation, oil and gas (energy), transport, gender, youth and children, food security and agriculture as well as the business and economic climate.

The aim of this meeting is to bring together relevant stakeholders (direct and indirect) to discuss the findings and to proffer any suggestions on the findings. The meeting is scheduled for March 5th , 2015 at the Alisa Hotel, Botsio Auditorium from 9am to 12 noon. Lunch will be served.

The presentations on each of these sectors will highlight an analysis of trends in policies relating to these sectors as well as budgetary allocations, disbursements and actual expenditure to decipher consistency and delivery of development goals and whether they had a positive impact on the Ghanaian economy or otherwise.

This project falls under the theme 'Tracking for comparative analysis of major social and economic indicators for 2009 - 2012 fiscal years and evaluating their impact on the Ghanaian Economy'.

The general objective of this project is to promote political and economic accountability through retrospective budget tracking of key social inclusive areas and sectors from 2009 through 2012 fiscal years and evaluate their impact on the economy. The specific objectives include:

(i) Promote fiscal responsibility in Ghana through appropriate expenditure analysis

(ii) Assess efficiency of budget to empower civil society to hold the government accountable

(iii) Understand the pattern of government budgetary allocation for the sectors under the four selected years and

(iv) Draw lessons to make reforms and improve current budget process systems and seek to ensure that the findings lead to reform and improvement of current budget process system.

Later in the evening on the same day, at 6:00pm at Alisa Hotel, we invite you to a discussion on ''Overcoming Adversity through persistence, hard work, integrity, fairness, forthrightness and professionalism, IMANI's rise to the top.''

The Key note speech for the evening will be on ''Professionalism and partisanship in Ghana's public sector. Pt. 2' to be delivered by Captain Retired. Budu Koomson

Concept: The essence of this event is to highlight IMANI's successes over the years culminating in its being awarded the second influential think tank in Africa, making Ghana proud in the process. It will be an opportunity to share this great occasion with all parties who directly or indirectly have some part to play in our work. This will include Journalists, other CSO's, Political players, Donors, employees and other partners.

We will also use this occasion to highlight the thorny issue of partisanship and professionalism in the public sector and how these two issues affect the output of government. This speech will be a follow up to a similar topic delivered by Capt. Koomson a few years ago.

Short Bio for Captain Retired Budu Koomson
Captain Budu-Koomson (Rtd),is currently a board member at IMANI Center for Policy and Education, and CEO of Nexus, a Consulting firm. He joined UT Financial Services Ltd in 1999 and rose through the ranks to the position of Chief Operating Officer of the UT Group. He has over 20 years' experience in personnel management having worked as the Head of Logistics Department and subsequently the Head of Personnel Department of Stockheim GMbH & Co KG at Dusseldorf International Airport in Germany.

He served in the Ghana Army and retired as a Captain. He has also worked as a Marketing Officer of GIHOC Paper Conversion Corporation and as an on-board Courier/Assistant Manager of the Overnight Courier Team between Dusseldorf, London Heathrow and Amsterdam Schiphol airport. He holds a “certificate” in Industrial Personnel Management from the Dusseldorf Chamber of Commerce in Germany.
