Ahanta West NDC In Tatters
25.02.2015 LISTEN

There is total confusion in the Ahanta West branch of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Western Region as majority of the party members in the area have threatened to quit.

This follows the dismissal of the Ahanta West District Chief Executive (DCE), Joseph Dofoyena, from office.

According to some NDC activists, the removal of the DCE from office would definitely have an adverse effect on the fortunes of the party in the region.

They alleged that it was through the efforts of the sacked DCE that NDC wrestled the seat from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2012 general elections.

“NDC is doomed in the constituency if the DCE is not brought back,” they indicated.

The aggrieved NDC supporters maintained that it was because of the DCE's humility that majority of them joined NDC and voted for the party.

The DCE for Ahanta West, Joseph Dofoyenah, was recently removed from office by President John Mahama, even though no reasons were advanced for the President's decision.

However, the NDC activists asserted that it was the Member of Parliament for the area, George Aboagye, who allegedly masterminded the removal of the DCE.

It would be recalled that the feud between the DCE and the MP led to the locking up of the NDC constituency office some time ago.

Meanwhile, MP Aboagye was reported to have indicated that it was rather the current constituency executives of the party who purportedly petitioned the President to remove the DCE from office.

Chiefs Intervene
Chiefs in the three paramouncies of the district- Ahanta Traditional Council, Upper and Lower Dixcove Traditional Councils – have also joined the fray.

The chiefs appealed to the President to as a matter of necessity, reinstate Dofoyena.

They have therefore written officially to the president to rescind his decision to sack their DCE.

“The president should tell us what Dofoyena has done wrong to warrant the dismissal”, they indicated.

Speaking on behalf of the Chiefs, Nana Eti Kofi II, stressed that the chiefs would not condone any wrong doing but since the DCE had done nothing wrong,  he should be reinstated.

On the alleged feud between the MP and the DCE, the chiefs admitted that Nananom were aware of the problem “but since it was political, the chiefs were looking up to the regional executives of the party to resolve the problem”.

“When we heard the news about the DCE's dismissal in the media, the chiefs called the regional minister, Paul Aidoo but the minister said he knew nothing about it and the problem between the MP and DCE has been settled”, he added.

The chief noted that it was alleged that the MP had earlier indicated that he could no longer work with Joseph Dofoyena.

We also heard the MP subsequently wrote to President John Mahama to remove the DCE from office.

Speaking to DAILY GUIDE , the sacked DCE pointed out that he had not officially been informed about his dismissal.

According to him, he also heard about the story in the media.

Elected assembly members of the Ahanta West District have also warned that they would never confirm any new person that would be nominated as a DCE.

They have indicated that as a matter of necessity, the president should reinstate the DCE to his office.

Addressing a press conference at Agona-Nkwanta, the district's capital, Eric King Arthur, assembly member for Gyabenkrom in the area, indicated that President erred in his decision to sack the DCE.

Youth Organizer Speaks
Meanwhile, the constituency youth organizer, Martin Kojo Essien has indicated that he was satisfied with the President's decision to dismiss Dofoyena from office.

He admonished other party members who problem with the President's decision to resort to the party's structures to put their grievances across.
