Oteng Adjei still lives in state bungalow; dares NPP to take him to court
24.02.2015 LISTEN

Embattled former Energy Minister Dr Oteng Adjei, who is still living in a government bungalow several months after leaving office has dared the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to go to court if it thinks he has illegally appropriated state vehicles.

Hours after returning a luxurious Lexus LX 570 the former minister still has in his possession another state vehicle, the NPP has alleged.

Dr Oteng Adjei had ordered the purchase of 38 luxurious vehicles between 2010-2012 to be used to monitor progress of work under the rural electrification project.

The vehicles which cost close to $2 million were funded with proceeds from a $350 million Exim Bank loan.

Dr Adjei is said to have taken one of the luxury vehicles for his personal use but after vehement public protestations, he returned the vehicle today.

However the opposition party's spokesperson on Energy KT Hammond claims that Dr Oteng Adjei is still keeping another state vehicle, a VW Phaeton belonging to GRIDCO.

Hammond did not understand how the man who ordered BNI operatives to retrieve state vehicles from former NPP operatives in 2009 will still be keeping official state vehicles several months after being reshuffled out of office.

In a chat with Joy FM's Evans Mensah, the former Energy Minister would not admit or deny keeping the VW Phaeton.

In a rather shocking switch from his pious demeanour which attended his earlier interview on Joy FM, Dr Oteng Adjei appeared more aggressive this time, daring the NPP to go to court.

He even disclosed that he was still living in his official state bungalow months after being reshuffled out of office. He did not understand why the NPP will be leading crusade over his use of a state vehicle.
