Akim Abenase (E/R), Feb. 20, GNA - Madam Priscilla Budu, the Founder of E.B.Z Foundation, a Ghanaian-based benevolent organisation, has donated items valued at 1,200 Ghana cedis to three schools in the Akyemansa District of the Eastern Region.

The items include 600 exercise books, 15 Information and Communication Technology text books and boxes of pen. They were distributed to Abenase, Subinso, and Brampa Junior High schools.

Madam Budu, in an interaction with the Ghana News Agency, said the principal objective of the organisation was to improve girl-child education in the rural areas.

She said research had shown that the standard of education of the girl-child was poor in the rural areas and that it was due to low financial support from parents.

This, she said, had touched her heart to help the students with educational materials and appealed to other non-governmental organisations and well-meaning individuals to support the initiative.

Madam Stephania Cann-Dadzie, the District Girl-Child Education Co-ordinator, said girl-child education had been a challenge in the area and called on the Ministry of Education to help organise a forum to sensitise parents on the importance of educating their female children.

Mr Tom Budu, Akyemansa District Chief Executive, pledged the assembly's support to education in the area.
