FEB 20, 2015 LISTEN

The chairmen of NPP and NDC have clashed over Ghana debt stock on the programme 'How are you doing Ghana?' hosted by Dr. John Kissi. Speaking on the UK based FM station; Elie FM, the NPP UK chairman, Mr. Michael Ansah said Ghana's debt stock is $27 billion while the NDC chairman, Mr. Kofi Kwakye put the figure at $21 billion.

Mr. Kwakye stated that the Government has invested the borrowed funds in infrastructure development that will yield returns to help pay for the loans.

He cited the expansion of the Takoradi Airport, the Atoabo Gas Plant among others. He further stated that not all the contracted loans are cleared funds yet they have been incorrectly included in the total debt stock.

Mr. Ansah however disagreed and called for an audit into all the loans that have been contracted against all the projects that have been undertaken.

He stated loans are contracted for specific purposes but the NDC led government is not disciplined enough to put the loans into those purposes. 'So much of the borrowed funds are wasted through corruption and mismanagement', he added.

The programme which has 'Think Ghana' as its motto continues discussion of Ghana's Economy next Tuesday 7:30-9:00pm.
