Power Minister Dr Kwabena Donkor has mocked the mammoth demonstration by the opposition New Patriotic Party in protest over the erratic power crisis in the country.

Speaking to JoyNews, he said the demonstration is more of a keep fit exercise for those who took part, saying everybody needs a lot of exercise to be healthy.

Describing the demonstration as the height of political opportunism, Dr Donkor said the NPP is not interested in solving the crisis facing the country.

"If they are interested they would have used the institution of Parliament to find out what Government is doing to solve the crisis," he said.

Thousands of sympathisers of the opposition New Patriotic Party hit the streets on Wednesday to protest the sour energy situation in the country which has left Ghanaians enjoy 12 hours of power only to endure 24 hours in darkness.

Leaders of the NPP, including flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo, his running mate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, party executives and former ministers of state were all part of the demonstration.

However Dr Kwabena Donkor told Joy News the NPP leaders only want to milk the situation for political gains.

He said the demonstration does not in any way mount pressure on him to perform, assuring that he is focused and would deliver the solution so that as a nation we will not go through such a crisis ever again.
