Police Yet To Effect Arrests After Religious Clashes—Brong Ahafo Police

The Brong Ahafo Regional Police Command says no arrests have so far been made in the region following the unrest between some Muslims and Christians in Atebubu last Friday.

Members of the two religious groups reportedly clashed over a disputed piece of land.

According to the police, the Muslims, who were upset about a wall that had been built on the disputed land by the SDA Church, reportedly ignited the unrest.

The clashes led to three houses, including the SDA Mission house, being set ablaze.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Command, ASP Christopher Tawiah told Citi News the police had taken control of the situation and calm had been restored to the area, but revealed that no arrest had so far been made.

“We have not been able to make any arrests and it is not prudent to make any arrests. We have actually moved in. The clergymen of SDA church came to the Regional Police to report the matter and as such the regional police commander has dispatched men to the ground including the crime management team and the advice he has received is that it would not be prudent to make any arrests now,” he explained

“But it has happened before, and many people have been arrested across the country and as security men, we will move at the appropriate time,” he added.

The clashes in Atebubu is the latest between rival groups in the country following conflicts in recent times between Alavanyo and Nkonya, and clashes in Bunkprugu -Yunyoo and Wa.
