28.01.2015 LISTEN

THE CHINESE government has so far committed about $1min Ebola education and other Ebola activities in the country, Li Jiang, Counsellor at the Economic and Commercial Counsellor Office at the Chinese Embassy in Ghana has said.

He made the disclosure in an interview with journalists during a Ghana-China training programme on control and prevention of Ebola virus disease for health workers in the Western Region.

It was aimed at educating health volunteers who came from all over the region to be abreast with issues concerning the Ebola disease so that they would in turn educate the people about the disease in the remote areas of the region.

Health experts from China took the participants through the evolution of the disease, mode of transmission and some preventive measures among others.

The Western Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Emmanuel Tinkorang, was happy that the rate of infection at the endemic West African countries, including Liberia and Sierra Leone seemed to be going down.

'But it's not over. We need to continue with the education and the training,' he indicated.

He commended the various security personnel at the Elubo border and other entry points for always liaising with his outfit to help screen people who enter the country from Ebola endemic countries.

Francis Anleah, Regional Disease Control Officer, was grateful to the Chinese government for the provision of logistics such as non-contact thermometers, hand sanitisers and other training kits to help fight the dreaded disease.
