The NDC Parliamentary candidate for the Weija/Gbawe constituency during the 2012 elections, MsObuobiaDarko- Opoku has donated a 17,000 litre Sintex water tank to the Wiaboma community to help address the water problem facing the area.

Presenting the water tank, MsObuobiawho is affectionately called OB said her gesture was in response to an appeal made by the chief of the community,Nii Nunoo Wiabo I concerning the lack of access to portable drinking water.

According to her, she owes it a duty to assist in the provision of support services to needy communities within the constituency and would therefore not wait to become a Member of Parliament before extending a helping hand.

She urged residents in the town to avoidpoliticizing the gesture emphasizing that the water and all other challenges that confronts them goes beyond theirpolitical affiliations.

MsOboubia also pleads with the community dwellers to desist from denigrating each another along party political lines because that attitude does not ensure unity and progress.

The philanthropist also donated ten (10) pieces of metal chairs for use in the chiefs' palace and five (5) Philips branded street lights to enhance the security of the Wiaboma community.

The gesture she noted was a short term measure as efforts are being made with the Ghana Water Company ltd to extend water to the area in future.

The Chief of Wiaboma, NiiNunoo Wiabo I expressed gratitude to Ms. Obuobia for her selfless act to assist the community with the water tank and prayed for God`s guidance for her.

The donation he said would go a long way to address the long standing water challenge of the community.

He promised to take very good care of the facility which is located within the palace for easy and equal access by all residents.

The chief also assured to be accountable with the proceeds that would accrue from the sale of water at reduce rate to residents in order to replicate more of the tanks throughout the whole community.

Wiaboma is a deprived fishing community in the Weija/Gbawe constituency located just few kilometers away from the Weija Dam arguably the second largest water treatment plant of the country which provides water to Accra and surrounding towns and villages.

Unfortunately, the close to 5,000 residents of Wiaboma lacks treated water and depends on brownish salted water from a single borehole for their survival.

Residents say the gesture by Ms. Obuobia has come as a great relief to their water needs and asked for more of such gestures.

In a related development, MsObuobia has also constructed and donated a bridge over a major gutter around the old barrier in the Weija/Gbawe area.

The construction of the bridge would now link the area to other major roads in the community.

It would also shorten the distance travelled by residents in the area and students especially of the Blessed Generation International School since they had to walk several distances before accessing the school.
