The Police in Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region have granted the driver of the alleged stolen Metro Mass Transit bus bail, while they continue with further investigations.
According to the Police, the driver, Mr Abdulai Zakari, aged 49, who was heading towards Tamale in the Northern Region from Ejura (Ashanti Region) was arrested at Techiman on January 20 upon a tip-off. The Techiman Municipal Police Commander, Chief Superintendent, Supt. Twumasi Ankrah who disclosed this in an interview said the driver is assisting them in their investigations.
He added that when they intercepted the bus with registration number GE 7503 Z, they quickly contacted the MMT's headquarters in Accra.
He said a team from Kumasi led by the Operation Manager for the Northern Sector of the MMT, Alhaji Stephen Abu came to Techiman, inspected the bus and confirmed that it was one of their missing buses and claimed that all the six (6) tyres with the bus were MMT property.
