Africa World Airlines' starts Accra-Kumasi evening flights; Kumasi-Lagos flights next
26.01.2015 LISTEN

Africa World Airlines (AWA) last Friday made its maiden evening flight from the Kotoka International Airport to Kumasi, in what passengers say could not have come at a better time.

The 7:30pm (local time) flight is an addition to the domestic carrier's daily flights from Accra to Kumasi and it's expected to allow same day connections from other parts of the World to Kumasi via Accra.

Some of the 39 passengers on the 50-seater AW 122 flight on the maiden flight told myjoyonline.com the flight will give them the comfort of completing their businesses before boarding the flight.

"The three O'clock or four O'clock flight was not favouring us because you had to rush from the office. But 7:30 is okay and I think you can wrap up from work before time. I think honestly Friday flights at 7:30 is the best", said a passenger.

AWA Brand Experience Manager, Samuel Razak Tachie, said load factor on the January 23 flight was impressive, adding the new route is one of many initiatives for 2015.

Mr Tachie said plans are advanced to introduce Kumasi-Lagos flights.

"We have just started the Accra-Kumasi night flights so we will evaluate the new route, and at the appropriate time we will begin the Kumasi-Lagos flights", he said.

However, an earlier communication from the recently adjudged 'Ghana Tourism Board's Domestic Airline of the Year' indicated that the Kumasi-Lagos flight will begin in February. Story by Ghana | Myjoyonline.com | George Nyavor | [email protected]
