Fraud Victims Leave Court Disappointed
21.01.2015 LISTEN

A group of artisans and traders, mostly women, who had allegedly been defrauded by a businesswoman yesterday besieged the premises of the Cocoa Affairs Court in Accra to witness the trial of the suspect but left the place disappointed.

The expectations of the victims to see Hajia Ayishetu Adamu, the 48-year-old manager of the Gye Nyame Fan Club, a financial co-operative society, face the law fizzled out when the court did not hear the case.

Hajia Adamu, a businesswoman based at Aboabo Number One in Kumasi, is in the grip of the law for allegedly defrauding about 7,000 people of GH¢800,000.

She was arrested on January 15, 2015.
The suspect registered her victims as members of a club she had established, the Gye Nyame Fan Club, in Amasaman in the Greater Accra Region.

She elicited financial contributions from the members and promised to give them very attractive interests, saloon cars, building materials, living room furniture, flat-screen television sets and other items if they contributed money for five months.

Unfortunately, that did not happen after they had made financial contributions for six months and her victims, who resided in the Greater Accra, Eastern, Ashanti and Volta regions, could not trace her after a while.

Hajia Adamu had arrived at the court at a time it was on recess, but before it resumed sitting, some policemen took her away in a police vehicle parked on the court premises.

That provoked the victims, most of whom were in mourning clothes, and they advanced towards the vehicle carrying Hajia Adamu away and hurled insults and curses at her.

She, however, appeared unperturbed.
