Politics Sack Portuphy if he fails to 'honourably' resign - Group
JAN 20, 2015 LISTEN

A group calling itself Patriotic Action for National Interest (PANI) has called on President John Dramani Mahama to sack National Disaster Management (NADMO) boss, Kofi Portuphy if he fails to resign from his post.

The group in a press statement copied to adomonline.com termed it as inappropriate for Mr. Portuphy to combine the national post with that of chairmanship position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“We all witnessed how he used state funds to induce NDC delegates to vote for him during their internal contest. Dr Kwabena Adjei, who was seeking re-election, said the NDC's election was characterized by “exploitation and monetization”. We believe that the manner in which Kofi Portuphy run his NDC Chairmanship campaign is only a harbinger of what he will do in the run-up to the 2016 general election,” the group in a letter signed by its Chairman, Kwabena Kobri said.

Mr. Portuphy was elected by delegates of the NDC to be serve as the chairman of his political and since his election, several calls have been made on him to resign from his post as NADMO Boss.

Similar calls have also been directed at his assistant, Anita De Soozo who is a now a National Vice Chairperson of the NDC.

“Again, it is constitutionally wrong and illegality for the NDC Chairman to continue as NADMO boss. It is a simple fact that the work of a NADMO boss is a full time job and so why is he still in office, juggling it with his national chairmanship post,” it said.

The statement is produced below:
The Patriotic Action For National Interest (PANI) is calling on His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama to immediately relieve the boss of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) of his post, or that Kofi Portuphy himself does the honourable thing and tender in his resignation. It is our contention that he cannot be the chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and remain at post at NADMO.

We all witnessed how he used state funds to induce NDC delegates to vote for him during their internal contest. Dr Kwabena Adjei, who was seeking re-election, said the NDC's election was characterized by “exploitation and monetization”. We believe that the manner in which Kofi Portuphy run his NDC Chairmanship campaign is only a harbinger of what he will do in the run-up to the 2016 general election.

Again, it is constitutionally wrong and illegality for the NDC Chairman to continue as NADMO boss. It is a simple fact that the work of a NADMO boss is a full time job and so why is he still in office, juggling it with his national chairmanship post.

How can President John Dramani Mahama sit down shamefully and supervise such an act of gross disrespect to the supreme law of the republic. Are we the citizenry just looking on as they do whatever they want in this country?

Mr President, we task you to uphold the national constitution in high esteem. We want to remind you of your duty to do the do, by sacking the NADMO boss; for you cannot continue to disrespect the supreme law of the land.

-----Signed-----
Chairman Kwame Kobri.
