Two Ivoirians have been arrested by the Drug Law Enforcement Unit of the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for allegedly attempting to transport about 119 compressed slabs of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp (wee) to La Cote d'ivoire.

The suspects, Sidibi Abou, 36 and Diemade Mory, 36, were apprehended at Weija in the Greater Accra Region on December 30, 2014 on their way to Cote d'ivoire on board a private Mercedes Benz car.

The suspected wee was purportedly hidden under a false compartment the suspects were said to have created under the driver and passenger side of the vehicle, with Ivorian registration number 2965E10L.

They have since admitted committing the offence and are in custody at the CID headquarters in Accra.

Briefing Daily Guide, Public Relations Officer at the CID headquarters, ASP Joseph Darkwa, said the two were apprehended upon a tipoff.

With the assistance of the SWAT Team from the Accra Region, the suspects were traced and nabbed while undertaking the journey.

The substance has been sent to the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) for examination.
