On Corruption In Ghana---Part 1

Corruption is an act of immorality, dishonesty and illegality. Many Ghanaians keep philosophising corruption in Ghana to understand its dimensions. Some think corruption in Ghana is an economic issue, others see it as a moral issue, while some too believe it is a social issue. But I limit my perception to "CHARACTER." Character is the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual, or it is the way someone thinks, feels and behaves. Our individual character define each of us, therefore, a type of character breeds corruption, and that is the "Bad Character," advisedly. And I believe two types of character are Good Character and Bad Character.

However, we need to understand that there are levels, kinds, forms and types of corruption, where every individual (Ghanaians in this case) acts at some points in time. Also, our individual character is dynamic and they respond or react as humans and so there may not be a permanent Bad Character or a permanent Good Character. But any act of corruption is certainly produced by the Bad Character as shown above. Moreover, we have to realise that money, power and fame or greed in general influence the Character to be bad, thereby ending up in an act of corruption. Therefore, the mischievous argument that "corrupt persons" are compelled to do so because of some need is somehow simplistic. This is because you can feel that way but your Good Character at work would never allow you to do something corrupt.

This means that need is subject to the Character which would determine the outcome in its badness or goodness. This is my proof: I sometimes feel to do something corrupt in times of real personal hardship, but my Good Character does not ultimately allow me to do so. That was the Character (Good Character to specify) at work in me! All these views are not philosophical but real!
