General News Police claim 'light skinned blonde haired police man' may be fair Ghanaian
DEC 26, 2014 LISTEN

The light skinned, blonde haired man seen driving a police vehicle on the eve of Christmas is likely to be a Ghanaian, police has confirmed.

ASP Cephas Arthur of the Public Affairs Directorate of the Police administration told Joy News' Francisca Kakra Forson preliminary investigations indicate the driver may have been a fair Ghanaian.

An eyewitness sighted the white man driving the police van with registration number GP 3836 around Dansoman in Accra and blaring the sirens at 9:30pm.

"I was in a car with my family and we were coming from the Sahara side of Dansoman heading towards first stop.

"When we got to the roundabout I saw the police car being driven by a middle-aged  white man. There was an occupant at the passenger seat and another at the back of the van.

"We followed it and when we got to the roundabout it negotiated and headed towards the Dansoman Keep fit.

"I was trying to follow up and get some pictures but it sped off. I took the number," he narrated.

ASP Cephas Arthur who spoke to Joy News early on said the police take a serious view of the report and will begin thorough investigations into the matter.

Barely a day after the report, Cephas Arthur told Joy News the white man involved in the controversy may be a Ghanaian after all.

He explained the complainant, in the dark night, may have mistaken the fair coloured Ghanaian police man to be a white man.

He was quick to add though that the investigations are not conclusive and the police would give out the full details once investigations are concluded.

He would not give out the identity of the fair coloured man who looks almost like a white man.

ASP Cephas Arthur also dismissed assertions the police may be involved in a cover up.

But the complainant  is livid. He told Joy News the police's explanation is "preposterous."

Born in the 40s, the complainant, whose name has been withheld, said he knows a white man when he sees one and nobody should insult his intelligence by claiming it was a fair Ghanaian he saw.

He said he saw a "light skinned, blonde-haired man" driving, adding, he has other witnesses who can corroborate his claims.
