Enhance Your Capacity As Insurance Practitioners - Commissioner of Insurance

The Commissioner of Insurance, Lydia Lariba Bawa has urged staff of insurance companies in the regional capitals in the country to enhance their capacity as insurance practitioners.

She stressed that in future all branch managers would be required to possess the Professional Insurance Qualification, the Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII).

Ms Bawa implored companies to provide decent office surroundings to ensure that Insurance business is conducted in a conducive environment since decent offices by themselves inspire respect and confidence.

These came to light when Ms Bawa paid an official working visit to Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region to interact with staff of the branch offices, inspect office premises and monitor the level of compliance of the 'No Premium No Cover' (NPNC) directive.

The Commissioner had previously visited the Western, Ashanti and the Northern Regions.

In Bolgatanga, she visited all the seven branch offices of insurance companies and observed that all the companies were complying with the NPNC directive.

The claim processes at the Bolgatanga offices were similar to those in other regional branches she had visited.

Claims received at the Bolgatanga offices were forwarded to the Head Office in Accra for settlement.

This process increased the turnaround time, and delayed claims settlement and payment.

The Commissioner reiterated her resolve to ensure that branch offices were given some reasonable limit of authorization to settle claims.

Ms Bawa assured the companies that her visit to the region would be a yearly affair and stated that she expects to see improvement during each visit.

She informed the companies that the Commission was undertaking several initiatives which would ensure growth of the Industry.

The Commissioner of Insurance urged the offices to adhere to the initiatives.

The companies expressed their delight at her visit and noted that her visit was the first by a sitting Commissioner of Insurance.

They assured her that they would work hard to create a positive image for the insurance industry in the Upper East Region.
