Police in Tamale have mounted a 24-hour security surveillance at the residence of former National Democratic Congress (NDC) vice chairman, Alhaji Hudu Yahaya. This follows intelligence that some youth are purportedly planning to burn down the property of the NDC guru in protest of his decision to pull out of the NDC chairmanship race at the weekend. Hudu Yahaya pulled out of the chairmanship race at the eleventh hour during the congress to elect new national executives for the party - a move that surprised a number of his supporters. It appears his supporters in Tamale are unhappy with the decision and are allegedly plotting to raze down his residence. Northern Region Police PRO, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, said the men are still stationed at Hudu's residence. “We stationed men there since Saturday when information came through that some people were planning to burn the house of Alhaji Hudu Yahaya following his decision to withdraw from the race,” he stated. He said until they had contrary information, the men would still be stationed there. Nobody has yet been arrested for the plot, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh confirmed. He added that the police would also seek personal protection for the former vice chair in the event that he paid a visit to Tamale. Alhaji Hudu Yahya is yet to comment on the matter. He is expected to release an official statement, Joy News has learnt.
