NDC Blows GH40,000 On 'Soli'

Confusion has erupted among journalists in the Ashanti Region, especially in Kumasi, over money which was supposed to be distributed among them for covering the NDC National Delegates' Congress but which was never distributed.

Credible reports making rounds indicated that the ruling political party allocated a staggering GH¢40,000 to be distributed to journalists who reported what transpired at the congress to the public.

But wild speculations emerged that the money ended up in the pockets of one party official (name unknown), as a result of which the onward distribution of the money as planned was never done. This has reportedly incurred the wrath of media practitioners in the city and the entire region.

Most of the journalists in Kumasi who spoke to DAILY GUIDE blamed the NDC for being heartless by deciding not to serve them even water after they provided coverage at the congress from Saturday morning to Sunday dawn.

Commenting on the issue on Kapital Radio , Raymond Tandoh, the Ashanti regional scribe of the NDC, apologised to journalists in the region for the party's negligence in that regard.

According to him, information reaching him indicated that indeed the NDC allocated GH¢40,000 for journalists but the money was reportedly distributed to journalists who came from the other nine regions to cover the programme.

Raymond Tandoh said he strongly protested against the exclusion of journalists in the Ashanti Region to that effect during a party meeting held in Kumasi on Sunday.

He noted that the Ashanti regional branch of the party was not happy about the treatment meted out to journalists of the region so the NDC leadership had agreed to secure money to be distributed to journalists from that region for covering the event.

Raymond Tandoh said the distribution of the money would hopefully be done by Tuesday and apologised once more to media practitioners in the Ashanti Region.

Baba Yara Dirt
In a related development, the huge dirt which was created at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, venue of the NDC congress, was still there on Monday morning, 48-hours after the congress.

Reacting to the development on Kapital Radio , Raymond Tandoh said the Grounds Committee of the NDC responsible for the cleaning of the stadium had engaged a firm to clear all dirt at the stadium.

He announced that the cleaning of the Baba Yara Stadium was supposed to commence on Monday morning at 10am, adding that the NDC could not leave the stadium in a dirty state after organising a congress in the facility.
