A Trend is rearing its ugly head at the University For Professional Studies (UPSA) where the cost of fees is skyrocketing and if not checked may lead many students to defer their courses. The call for fees reduction in UPSA is no longer news but its a call all believe must be responded to in an urgent manner but one would be surprised to note that the fees of UPSA is rather on the increase as indicated clearly by the fees being paid by the first year students of the school and that's one of the main reason why I believe NUGS must add their voice to the call.

If one was to base on fees charged to classified whether or not an institution is a government or private institution, I can say without doubt that many are those that would place the University Of Professional Studies as a private University.

What surprises me the most is the fees being paid by the Diploma regular students who were recently admitted (2014 batch), one would be surprised if not shock to know that, they pay as much as GHC2400 as tuition excluding SRC dues for a year. I believe that, this is not an act that should be encouraged in a Government University especially in a country that believes in making education affordable to all. No wonder a publication in the Daily Graphic was titled "UHAS and UPSA are charging high fees". This gives further credence to the assertion I am making.

I therefore stand on behalf of the concerned students of this Noble University and plead with the regulators of our fess to take a very critically look at the fees being charged and review it. We are not asking your highly respected office to reduce the fees to that of UG, KNUST, or UCC but we are making a plea that will make students comfortable when the semester is about to start. In spite of the fact that part of the fees are used to fund developmental projects, we believe, the reduction is not an impossibility.

We would also call on government to perform their obligation to the university of Professional Studies in order to help the school authorities reduce the fees or answer to the call of students.

I would finally call on NUGS, the mother of all students to please add their voice to the call of fees reduction since their highly respected office would do as a favour in our match for this passionate appeal.

To conclude, I would like to use this opportunity to congratulate the school authorities especially the vice chancellor, Prof Joshua Alabi not forgetting the entire students body for working very hard to place UPSA first in the Global Assessment of Higher Education Institution around the world which was organized this year.
