The increasing number of parents who refuse to pay for their children's bills at the Princess Marie Louise Hospital [Children's Hospital] in Accra is now posing a serious financial risk to the facility.

It is becoming a daily ritual where parents abscond with their kids when they feel that the children are getting better, hospital administrator Madam Francisca Sefakor Kumahor has revealed.

It is quite disturbing, she indicated, that even though the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) is admissible there, such parents would not take advantage of it.

According to Madam Francisca Kumahor, the location of the hospital has exposed it to slum dwellers who are the worst offenders of reneging in settling bills.

Madam Kumahor disclosed to Adom News that even though the hospital has what they called the 'Needy Fund' that takes care of such situation; they are unable to cater for most of the cases as a result of inadequate funds.

“Most of our clients are head porters and drug peddlers, they come here seriously ill but without money,” she confirmed.

She has therefore appealed to stakeholders and philanthropists to come to the hospital's aid in catering for the poor and vulnerable children who visit the facility.

The Administrator announced this when the St Joseph the Worker Anglican Church at Kaneshie presented some items worth GHC7,000.00 to the hospital as part of activities marking the 70 th Anniversary of the Church.

The items included medical equipment, toiletries, food, a table top fridge, bed sheets, and Christmas souvenirs.

The Head Pastor of the St Joseph the Worker Anglican Church Rev. Canon Major Nii Addy Laryea said the presentation was a part of the Church's social responsibility. He also thanked God for seeing the church through the past 70 years.

He appealed to individuals and the corporate world to stretch their arms to the needy and vulnerable in society because it is God a given responsibility for mankind to give generously, especially to the poor.
