Centre for National Culture in collaboration with Ministry of Health and Ghana Health Service, has launched an Ebola, Cholera campaign to bolster awareness of the disease and preventive measures to visitors who visits the Art center, Accra from different part of the world and people at the Centre.

The awareness campaign, according to the president of the Bajoo hour, Mr. Daniel Clerk, will be done twice in a month at the Art center to sensitize Visitors as they enjoy the 'bajoo hour' (dancing hour) and poetry telling. “Visitor will be educated on how to prevent themselves from Ebola and cholera”.

“Bajoo hour is a Ga language, meaning 'Dance hour', during this hour, drums and traditional dancing are displayed to the visitors who visit the Art Centre. We are using our medium to educate Ghanaians on how to prevent Ebola and eradicate cholera”. Bajoo hour is an entertainment hour affiliated to Centre for National Culture; it consist of vibrant youths in Greater Accra from different culture and ethnic background who entertain visitors with dancing and poetry telling from different part of the world and Ghanaians, Mr. Clerk noted

The director of ministry of tourism, Nana Bright Oduro Koranteng, who launched the campaign, highlighted the need for everyone to join the fight in keeping the country free from the deadly epidemic.

“Though, Ghana has not recorded any case of Ebola virus but it's very important to orientate ourselves on the possible causes of the disease and how best to protect ourselves from contacting the deadly virus” said Odoru Koranteng.

“The key messages of the campaign are; Avoid physical contact with people with symptoms, wash your hands regularly with clean water and soap, keep away from fruit Bats, Monkeys, Dead animals, etc. Animal product should be thoroughly cooked, inform health authority in case of contact and lastly, only travel to affected countries in case of urgent need” he maintained.

Mr. Oppong George, director of performing Art department, Citing the popular adage, cleanliness is next to godliness; he reiterated the importance of personal hygiene and asked Ghanaians to observe it.

According to him, “Since the outbreak of the Ebola virus disease, over 9,000 cases with more than 4,000 lives has been lost in some part of West Africa. The situation has created fear, panic and uncertainty, occasioned by misinformation among the citizenry and misinformation from the international media to the world that Ebola is in Africa which is a very reportage from the international media”.

“We must be thankful to God for keeping the disease away from us; we must remain vigilant and continue propagating the awareness of Ebola and Cholera campaign as we celebrate Christmas” Mr. Oppong he added.
