The president of the national house of Chiefs Wulugu Naba, Pugansoa Naa Prof. John S. Nabila has charged kingmakers and queen makers where applicable to sit up and ensure that there is always the right choice of candidates for vacant stools without consideration of the highest bidder.
He said this at their last meeting of the National House of chief held in Kumasi to mark the end of 2014.
“Kingmakers and Queen mothers and indeed all who have a role to place in the enstoolment of chiefs must observe the traditional procedures and process of nomination and selection of candidate for stool when they become vacant.” He stated.
He appealed to Nananom on the judicial committee to endeavor to avail themselves for regular deliberations in all the committee and to parties and their lawyers to also avail themselves at the committee's sittings so as to avoid unnecessary adjournment.
He also urged chiefs in Ghana to always try and settle their differences using the mediation process instead of violence's.
According to him, the house in October this year organized a seminar on Ebola and Cholera for members to help eradicate the disease and also to create awareness. The ministry of chieftaincy and traditional affairs with financial support by UNICEF also organized a workshop on child and family welfare and juvenile justice policies for members of the National of chiefs.
He said, the constitutional reform Implementation committee enquired about steps to materialize the membership of the Queen mother's into the various house of chiefs.
“The standing committee has decided that in accordance with article 274 (1) of the 1992 constitution and section 6 (1) of the chieftaincy act 2008 (act 257) it is the responsibility of the national house of chiefs to decide the membership of the regional house of chiefs, including Queen mother's”. He stated.
The president Walugu Naba also expressed appreciation to his Excellency John Dramani Mahama for donating one pickup to each of the Houses of chiefs for their Operations. He thanks the government for his kind gesture. “In fact the provision of the pickups and the vehicles for the presidents of the National and Regional House has facilitated the work of the chieftaincy Institution”. He lamented.
However he appealed to all road users including motorists, passengers and pedestrians to ensure that we have accident free yuletide. He therefore urges everyone to be cautious, careful and take full responsibilities of their safety.
