Sefwi Akoti-Etwebo (W/R)---Two hundred and sixty-five pairs of assorted footwear have been presented to Akoti MA Primary and Etwebo DA primary schools at a simple but colourful ceremony at Akoti-Etwebo.

The donation was mobilized by a group of employees of the Chirano Mines Company Limited as part of a“Footwear project” launched recently.

Presenting the footwear at the two schools, Ms. Hilda Arhin, one of the organisers, said the donation was aimed at encouraging pupils to attend school, demonstrate love and care for the pupils and also to give them a gift as preparations are made towards Christmas.

Mr. Theophilus Antwi-Baadu and Kwame Sam Biney, co-founders of the “Footwear project” said they conceived the idea as a result of the poor footwear worn to school by pupils and students of the rural communities within the Sefwi area and decided to seek financial support from other workers to help them provide a footwear per child and will continue to support other rural poor communities as long as funds are available.

Funds for the project were mobilized from voluntary contributions of some employees of Chirano Gold Mines who also felt the need to support the children.

The footwear was presented to the head teachers of the Akoti and Etwebo schools respectively and witnessed by the school pupils.

Receiving it, Madam Christina Donkor, Headmistress of Etwebo DA school thanked the organisers for the initiative and for choosing pupils of her school to be the first beneficiaries.

She pledged that the footwear will be distributed to the pupils accordingly and appealed for more support to facilitate their work.
