Over 4,000 delegates of the ruling National Democratic Congress will today (Saturday), December 20 go to the polls to elect new National Executives to steer the affairs of the party for the next four years.

The delegates traversing the various regions of the country arrived at the congress venue, Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi in the Ashanti region, Friday.

It is the 8th Congress of the governing party being held at the stronghold of the opposition New Patriotic Party in Kumasi.

The sitting president John Dramani Mahama and party founder JJ Rawlings are expected to grace the occasion.

Among the key positions being contested for are, the National chairman, General Secretary, National organiser, vice chairmen, deputy general secretary, and propaganda secretary.

According to the incumbent General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, there will be no speeches at today's congress by both ministers and candidates.

“Because of the huge number of candidates, it has been decided by the electoral committee that no opportunity will be granted to the various candidates to address the delegates before the voting takes place, for we are having to work with time constraints”.

He added: “The addresses of Ministers of key ministries have also been taken out because there is no luxury of time”.

“However, the various candidates will be introduced and their various numbers on the ballot paper will be mentioned”.
