Hotel Business Booms In Kumasi Ahead Of NDC Congress

Some hotels in Kumasi in the Ashanti region have increased their rates by about 50% in response to the high demand for accommodation due to the upcoming National Delegates Congress of the NDC on Saturday. “The normal rate is 80 Ghana cedis but to be honest because of the congress, it has been increased …to 120 Ghana cedis,” Douglas Asiedu, the front desk manager of Golden Gate hotel told citifmonline.com.

The hotel which is located in the heart of Kumasi, on the main Kumasi – Accra highway adjacent the Kumasi children's park has 38 rooms. According to Asiedu “Business has been very good and we have been fully booked since yesterday (December 18) … most of them would be checking out on Sunday December 21 .”

Some 3600 delegates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are expected in Kumasi to elect their national executives on December 20, 2014.

At the Stadium Hotel, a two star hotel that has been operating since July 1978, located behind the Baba Yara Sports Stadium at Asokwa – a suburb of Kumasi, all the rooms had been booked since December 16. The manager of hotel Ebenezer Kwabena Adu Ofosu, said the last few days had been very “stressful.”

He said the hotel has 23 rooms and the rates that ranged between 70 and 130 cedis had been maintain despite the move by some other hotels to cash in by increasing their rates due to the congress. Ceeta Kel hotel is located in Asokwa in Kumasi and according to the manager , Emmanuel Amoako they are elated about the revenues because sales for year has generally been bad.
